About Me

Sandra Covey was raised in a Chicago suburb called Park Ridge, Illinois and currently resides in Morton Grove, Illinois. Her inspiration and desire to be a photographer came from photographs her mom took during her childhood’s family trips and events including her enjoyment of reading books and magazines. She was always taking note of the photographs and how they conveyed a story. One day she borrowed her mother's camera and enjoyed capturing the fun moments of her sister's sweet 16th birthday party. Quite pleased with the photographs so much that she continued as a self-starter photographer with no hands-on training. Sandra's passion of taking photographs continued with family events, social events, travel, and landscape. In 2007, she compiled a travel portfolio from the places she visited all over the world for review. Peers found it amazing and surprised that she had taken no photography classes. Not to mention, her ability to successfully capture the story. In 2008 Sandra self-published a 12-month calendar and in 2009 she had three landscape photographs published in a trade book.
Sandra is always experimenting as photographer with new ideas, lighting, techniques, and attending photography workshops. In 2013, she took her first photography class within the Fine Art Photography Certificate program at the Chicago Botanic Gardens and completed it in 2015. Sandra's photography course work grew in fine art, abstract, black and white, lighting, landscape, portraits, and nature. In 2014 and 2016, her abstract photograph was included within the student exhibition at the Chicago Botanic Garden. In 2017 her submission to the Morton Grove Illinois Summer Photo Contest – Incredibly Close Amazingly Open was chosen as the winner.
Photography always tells a story and that is the reason Sandra enjoys it very much! Particularly, her expression to capture the moment of emotion and vision through her camera lens. Her unique portfolio specializes in nature, landscapes, portraits, fine art, and photojournalism.
